Frequently asked

The most-viewed answers.

Is my identity visible?
No. ActualRep runs on pseudonymity: only your pseudo is public. Your name and email are never shown, so you can speak freely.
How do I create an account?
Sign up with an email address and a password, or in one click with Google. A confirmation email is sent to you: verify your address before posting. By signing up, you accept the Terms and the community Charter.
How is a domain's reputation calculated?
A domain's reputation reflects the community's real experience: the reviews people post, their votes, and objective signals such as the site's security and its age. It is designed to stay cautious when reviews are few, and to be hard to manipulate. We don't disclose the exact formula, precisely to keep people from gaming it.
What does the security warning on a domain mean?
Every domain is checked against Google Safe Browsing. If a risk is found (malware, phishing), a security warning appears. Other signals can also raise a flag: no HTTPS, a very recently registered domain, or a site that is offline.
Is ActualRep free?
Yes, the essentials are free: searching, reading and posting reviews, voting, taking part in the forum, claiming your domain, replying, and presenting your business. Only two owner actions are paid: the major update ($49) and the fresh start or company change ($29).
How do I post a review?
On the domain's page, start writing a review. You give a rating from 1 to 5 stars, a title, and a comment. You can leave only one review per domain, editable at any time, and your email must be verified.
What are the votes (like / dislike) for?
Under any domain, review, or message, you can vote to surface the most helpful content. Clicking the same button again removes your vote.
What's the difference between a review and the forum?
A review is a rated assessment of a domain, one per person. The forum is for discussion: asking a question, sharing an experience, talking with others. Reviews count toward a domain's reputation; discussions don't, but they stay public and useful.
Can I edit or delete my review or my message?
Yes. Your reviews, discussions, and replies stay editable and deletable at any time, from the content itself. Deletion is permanent; deleting a review lets you post a new one.
How do I claim a domain I own?
Open your domain's page and click “Claim a domain”. Prove you control it with one of three methods: a DNS TXT record, a file on your site, or a meta tag. Verification is automatic and free, with no manual review.
Can I reply to a review about me?
Yes, if you are the verified owner of the domain. Your right of reply is free and unlimited, on both reviews and the forum.
How do I declare my company or my identity?
As the verified owner, you can declare the company behind the domain for free. If an official registry confirms it (EU VAT, national business number, LEI), your entity gets a verified badge; otherwise it shows as “Declared”, unverified. This declaration has no effect on your score.
Can I present my business?
Yes. Once your domain is verified, you can add a short profile for free: a tagline, a description, and up to three official links.
What's the difference between a free announcement and a major update?
A free announcement adds your message and changes nothing: every existing review, vote, and discussion keeps counting. A major update ($49) opens a new scoring period that puts your recent record in the spotlight, while the past stays visible and keeps counting in your history. Neither one archives the past, only a fresh start (a verified company change, or a re-registered domain) does that.
What is a fresh start?
A fresh start archives the past and opens a clean page. It applies in two cases: a company change ($29), which requires a newly verified entity; or, for free, when a domain has genuinely changed hands or been re-registered. In every case, the history stays viewable, for transparency.
Can I correct an update? Is it paid?
Yes, and it's free. If you made a mistake in a major update you paid for, you can fix it at no cost: we never charge for a correction.
What payment methods, and will I get an invoice?
Payments are handled securely by Stripe. The price shows in your currency based on your country, in euros or dollars, and an invoice is provided. Free actions are applied immediately, with no payment.
Can I change my pseudo?
Yes. In your settings, you can change your pseudo by picking a new one from a list of generated suggestions. It is then replaced everywhere.
I forgot my password, what do I do?
On the sign-in page, use the password reset link: you will receive an email to set a new one. Once signed in, you can also change it from your security settings.
How do I delete my account and my data?
From your settings, you can delete your account by confirming with the word “DELETE”. Your contributions aren't erased but anonymized, showing as “[deleted]”, so discussions aren't broken, and your personal data is removed.
How do I report abusive content?
Click “Report” under the review, message, or pseudo. Every report is confidential. Past a certain number of reports, the content is automatically folded, but stays viewable.
What happens to reported content?
Heavily reported content is “folded”: hidden by default and weighted less in reputation, but viewable in one click. Nothing is deleted silently. A review can also be placed “under review”: it stays visible but no longer counts toward the score while it is being checked.
How is content moderated?
Moderation combines three layers: an automatic check at publication for toxic or dangerous content, detection of coordinated behavior such as bursts of fake reviews, and human intervention for sensitive cases. Heavy sanctions, such as a ban, are reserved for repeat offenses confirmed by a human.
